A number of local not-for-profit groups and organisations in the borough have received a positive boost after successfully applying for grants.
The funds, received from the council’s small grants fund, acts as a rally for these groups who work in their communities to make a difference.
These organisations include:
• Friends of Harwoods Adventure Playground - awarded £594 towards 'A Big Lunch' - a community bring & share picnic
• Friends of Oxhey Park - awarded £643.87 towards the installation of a river trash boom to stop rubbish being trapped in tree roots and alongside the river
• Nascot Residents Association - awarded £1,873.99 towards a variety of community projects
• Nysa Projects - awarded £2,000 towards the delivery of a musical puppet show and art workshop
• Oxhey Village Environment Group - awarded £2,000 towards the running of Oxhey Village Fayre
• Queens Community Action Group - awarded £2,000 towards Queens Community Street Markets.
Sandy Belloni, Chair of The Friends of Oxhey Park, used to voluntarily collect rubbish from the river by hand. He believes these funds show the council cares, and this will in turn make a ‘real difference’.
He said: “This grant has helped us to try something positive, which we believe will make a real difference to the area. If people don’t see rubbish in the river, they are much less likely to throw rubbish in the river.
“Sounds obvious, but its true!”
